As your island grows, you build homes for animal villagers, open shops, and add a museum. Later you can reshape cliffs and rivers, lay paths, and design the whole island layout. Your island sits in the northern or southern hemisphere, which sets the seasons you see and the fish and bugs that appear each month.

Up to four players can share one island on a single console. Up to eight players can visit each other through local wireless or online play, while the Switch 2 Edition raises online visits to 12 players with other Switch 2 owners.
