Anno 1404 History Edition is a city-building and economic strategy game developed by Ubisoft Mainz and published by Ubisoft. It released on June 25, 2020 for PC as an updated version of Anno 1404, known in North America as Dawn of Discovery.
You found island settlements in a late medieval world and grow them from simple farming villages into wealthy cities. Each population tier asks for new goods, so you plan production chains, trade routes, and island layouts to keep citizens happy.
The game contrasts two cultures. Trade with the Orient unlocks new resources and Nobleman needs, and working with both sides is key to reaching the highest population levels. Naval combat, quests, and rival AI players add pressure.
The History Edition includes the Venice expansion, which brings co-op and competitive multiplayer, new ships, quests, and items. It also adds support for resolutions up to 4K, borderless window mode, multi-screen setups, and full save compatibility.
Anno 1404 suits players who enjoy relaxed but deep city building, supply chain puzzles, and long sandbox sessions. It runs well on modest hardware, so it is a good entry point to the series and a comfortable choice for older laptops and desktops.
Activation: PC keys activate on Ubisoft Connect. Steam copies also require a Ubisoft account to play.
What is included: The History Edition contains the base game and the Venice expansion, plus a soundtrack, wallpapers, and an Anno 1800 company logo.
Collection option: Anno 1404 is also part of the Anno History Collection, which bundles four remastered Anno games.
