Apex Legends is a free-to-play, squad-based battle royale hero shooter developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts. The original Nintendo Switch version released on March 9, 2021, ported by Panic Button, bringing "full feature parity" with other platforms, including all Legends, weapons, attachments, maps, abilities, and ranked mode.
On the original Switch hardware, the game runs at 30 frames per second in both docked and handheld modes, with a resolution of 720p docked and 576p in handheld mode, a reduction from the 60fps seen on PC and other consoles at the time. Visual details such as texture quality, foliage density, and shadow quality were also scaled back to maintain performance on the platform's more limited hardware.
Nintendo Switch players get full cross-play support, meaning they can team up with or face off against players on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, though this can be disabled in the settings if preferred. Notably, there is no cross-progression between Switch and other platforms, so Legends, cosmetics, and Battle Pass progress unlocked on one platform do not carry over to another.
In August 2025, Apex Legends launched a dedicated version for Nintendo Switch 2, offering improved performance suited to the newer hardware. Players who log in around launch could claim a limited-time Legendary "P.A.T.H." skin as a promotional bonus.
Because the base game is free, most retailer listings tied to "Apex Legends" for Nintendo Switch involve Apex Coins or premium currency top-ups, used to purchase cosmetic bundles and Battle Passes, rather than access to the game itself .
Full feature parity with other platforms: all Legends, weapons, maps, and ranked mode included.
Cross-play support with PC, PlayStation, and Xbox players (can be disabled).
Dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 version released August 5, 2025, with improved performance.
Smaller install size compared to other platforms (roughly 19 GB vs. ~60 GB on PS4).
Launch bonuses included 30 free Battle Pass levels and a Legendary P.A.T.H. skin for early Switch players.
Regular seasonal updates adding new Legends, weapons, and limited-time modes, shared across all platforms.
