Assassin's Creed Chronicles: China is a 2.5D stealth action platformer developed by Climax Studios and published by Ubisoft. It released on April 21, 2015 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One as the first of three Chronicles games.
The story takes place in 1526 as the Ming dynasty begins to crumble. You play as Shao Jun, the last Assassin of the Chinese Brotherhood, who returns to her homeland after training with Ezio Auditore to take revenge on the Templars who destroyed her order.
Levels play out on a side-on plane with depth layers. You hide in shadows and alcoves, watch guard vision cones, and use parkour, whistles, and tools such as firecrackers to slip past or eliminate targets. Open combat is possible but risky.
Missions move through landmarks such as the Forbidden City and the Great Wall. A scoring system rewards stealth, speed, and kills differently, which gives you reasons to replay levels with a new approach. Levels are short, which makes them easy to replay in a single sitting.
The art style is inspired by Chinese ink and watercolor painting, so every stage looks like a moving scroll. It suits players who enjoy careful stealth, short levels, and a different take on the Assassin’s Creed series.
PC: PC keys activate on Ubisoft Connect. Steam copies also need a Ubisoft account to play.
Consoles: PS4 and Xbox One codes are redeemed on PlayStation Network or a Microsoft account.
Trilogy: China is the first Chronicles game. The India and Russia chapters are separate games, also sold together as a trilogy pack.
Before you buy, check the activation platform and region on each offer, then follow our guide on how to activate your CD key. For full store details, see the Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China Steam page.
