Atari Mania is a microgame collection developed by Studios iLLOGIKA and published by Atari. It released on October 13, 2022 for PC and Nintendo Switch, and came to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in April 2023. The Steam release supports full controller play, Steam Cloud saves, achievements, and trading cards.
The story sends you into the Atari Vault, where evil dead pixels are corrupting classic characters and games. Between microgames you explore the vault, solve puzzles with tools you find, and restore what has been damaged. Along the way you meet familiar Atari characters, and some levels let you play as heroes such as Pete, the gunslinger from Outlaw.
The core is more than 150 lightning-fast microgames and boss battles. Many are mashups that combine and twist classics such as Asteroids, Circus Atari, Dodge 'Em, Missile Command, and Yars' Revenge into new challenges. Each microgame lasts only a few seconds, so you must work out the goal and react almost instantly.
Hidden Easter eggs and collectible trophies reward careful exploration, and the soundtrack is built from retro-style chiptune tracks. Atari Mania is a single-player game, and it also launched on the Atari VCS console.
It suits fans of quick-fire games like WarioWare, retro gaming history, and players who enjoy humor and surprises. You do not need to know the original games to enjoy it, but longtime fans will spot many references, and it works well in short play sessions.
