Autodesk AutoCAD 2024 is a version of Autodesk's industry-standard computer-aided design (CAD) software, released in March 2023. It is used by architects, engineers, drafters, and designers to create precise 2D drawings and 3D models for buildings, products, and infrastructure.
AutoCAD 2024 introduced features that use automation and machine learning to save time on repetitive drafting. Activity Insights tracks how a drawing has changed and who changed it, and Smart Blocks: Placement suggests where to place blocks based on how you have used them before. It also builds on the Markup Import and Markup Assist tools introduced in AutoCAD 2023, which help bring feedback from PDFs and images into your drawings, and improves overall performance.
AutoCAD works with the DWG file format, the most widely used format for CAD drawings. Full AutoCAD subscriptions also include industry-specific toolsets, such as Architecture, Mechanical, and Electrical, plus access to the AutoCAD web and mobile apps for viewing and editing drawings on the go.
Autodesk sells AutoCAD as a subscription rather than a perpetual license, so access is tied to a fixed term, usually one year, and an Autodesk account. Check whether an offer is a full commercial subscription, an educational license, or another license type before buying, as usage rights differ. AutoCAD 2024 runs on Windows, with a separate AutoCAD for Mac version.
