Back to the Dawn is a narrative prison-escape RPG developed by Metal Head Games and published by Spiral Up Games. It launched on July 17, 2025, on PC and Xbox.
You choose one of two protagonists. Thomas the Fox is a journalist jailed after refusing to play along with a dark conspiracy, while Bob the Panther is an undercover agent pulled back for one last job inside the prison. Each storyline offers more than 20 hours of play.
The prison is a large, rule-bound world with plenty to explore. You build friendships or rivalries with 47 distinct inmates spread across three powerful gangs, and getting caught breaking the rules has consequences, so timing and planning matter.
The game features over 100 handcrafted quests, several escape routes with their own risks and rewards, and multiple endings shaped by your choices. With more than 500,000 words of script, dialogue and investigation are as important as the escape itself.
Back to the Dawn is a single-player game with adjustable difficulty, full controller support and Steam Cloud saves on PC.
Both protagonists move through the same prison but follow different goals. Thomas works with an attorney friend on the outside to collect evidence that can clear his name and protect the city, while Bob faces betrayal and vengeance during a personal mission. Each route has its own choices, allies and endings.
It suits players who enjoy story-driven RPGs, prison-escape games and choice-heavy narratives with plenty of replay value.
Activation: PC keys activate on Steam. Xbox codes redeem through a Microsoft account.
Add-ons: The Supporter Pack, soundtrack and Game Modifier Toolkit are separate DLC and need the base game.
Before you buy, check the activation platform and region on each offer, and read how to activate your CD key if you are new to digital keys. More details are on the Back to the Dawn Steam page.
