Beat Saber is a virtual reality rhythm game developed and published by Beat Games. It entered Steam Early Access on May 1, 2018, and fully launched on Windows PC on May 21, 2019. On PC it is VR only and runs through SteamVR, so you need a compatible headset and tracked motion controllers.
The core loop is simple to learn and hard to master. You hold a red saber in one hand and a blue saber in the other, and colored blocks fly toward you in time with the music. Arrows on each block show the direction to cut, while dot blocks can be sliced from any angle. You also duck and lean around walls and avoid bombs.
Good hits fill an energy bar and mistakes drain it, so a song ends early if you miss too much. Later updates added chain and arc notes, and modifiers such as No Fail or faster song speed let you tune the challenge and your final rank.
You can play solo for high scores, climb the Steam leaderboards, or join online multiplayer lobbies. A built-in level editor lets you create your own beatmaps, and the soundtrack grows through free updates and paid music packs from artists such as Linkin Park, Imagine Dragons, and Metallica.
Beat Saber suits VR owners who want a workout-friendly game that is easy to pick up at parties but rewards practice on higher difficulties.
Activation: PC keys activate on Steam and need a SteamVR-compatible headset.
Music packs: Extra song packs are sold separately as DLC and require the base game.
Other stores: Meta Quest and PlayStation versions are separate purchases and do not use Steam keys.
