Blades of Fire is a third-person dark fantasy action adventure developed by MercurySteam, the Spanish studio behind Metroid Dread, and published by 505 Games. It was released on May 22, 2025 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
You play as Aran de Lira, a warrior in a kingdom where a curse has turned steel into stone. Aran is one of the few people left who can still forge true steel, and he sets out with a young scholar, Adso, to confront the ruler behind the curse.
The forge is the heart of the game. Instead of picking up random loot, you design weapons at the anvil. You choose the weapon type, head shape, handle, and materials, then hammer the metal into form in a short forging minigame. Each choice changes the weapon's reach, weight, damage type, and stamina cost, so a blade is built for the enemies you expect to face.
Combat is deliberate and punishing. Attacks are aimed at specific parts of an enemy's body, and armor reacts differently to slashing, piercing, and blunt damage. Timing, spacing, and stamina matter more than speed, and every swing commits you. Weapons wear down in battle and must be repaired or reforged.
Blades of Fire is a single-player game. It suits players who enjoy methodical melee combat, Soulslike challenge, crafting systems with real consequences, and large, interconnected fantasy worlds to explore.
