Chrono Trigger is a turn-based role-playing game developed and published by Square Enix. It first launched on the Super Nintendo in 1995, and this PC version arrived on Steam on February 27, 2018 with refreshed visuals, sound, and controls.
The game was made by a celebrated team that included Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii, Dragon Ball artist Akira Toriyama, and key staff behind Final Fantasy. The story starts at the Millennial Fair, where a teleporter accident sends a girl named Marle through a time rift. Crono follows her 400 years into the past, and the journey grows into a quest to stop a disaster that ends the world.
Battles use the Active Time Battle system, and enemies appear on the map rather than in random encounters. Party members can combine skills into Dual Techs and Triple Techs, so choosing who fights together shapes your strategy.
You travel between the present, the Middle Ages, the future, prehistory, and the Kingdom of Zeal. Choices and timing change the outcome, and the game has multiple endings plus a New Game+ mode. This edition also includes the Dimensional Vortex and Lost Sanctum dungeons first added in later versions.
Chrono Trigger is single-player only. It suits players who enjoy classic Japanese RPGs, strong storytelling, and a game that rewards replaying to see every ending.
