Cities XXL is a city-building simulation developed and published by Focus Home Interactive, now Focus Entertainment. It released on PC on February 5, 2015 as the latest entry in the Cities XL line.
You act as mayor and plan every part of a city: residential areas, shops, offices, industry, roads, and public transport. As the population grows, you balance budgets, services, and the happiness of different social classes.
The game includes more than 1,000 buildings across 47 architectural styles and over 65 maps, from snowy mountains to coastal resorts. Ecology options such as park-and-ride, bike hire, and electric car dealerships help manage pollution.
A key feature is the shared economy across your cities. You can trade water, fuel, waste handling, workers, and even tourists between cities on the same planet. The game is single-player and supports Steam Workshop content.
Transport planning is a big part of the game. You lay out highways, bus lines, and metro networks to move workers between homes and jobs, and traffic problems grow quickly if you ignore them. Landmarks and leisure buildings raise attractiveness and help bring in new residents.
Cities can grow to very large populations, so careful zoning early on makes later expansion much smoother.
It suits city-builder fans who want very large maps and a slower, planning-focused experience.
