Civilization 7 is a turn-based strategy game where you lead a civilization from the ancient world through the modern age. The game introduces major changes that make it more dynamic than previous versions.
Instead of playing with one civilization from start to finish, you now progress through three distinct ages: Antiquity, Exploration, and Modern. At the start of each new age, you can transition to a different civilization, which keeps strategies fresh and prevents early-game leaders from dominating the entire match.
The game separates leaders from civilizations, so you can mix and match any leader with any civilization. This creates unique strategic possibilities, like leading Japan with a European leader or combining unexpected historical pairs. Each leader brings unique abilities, while your civilization provides its own strengths.
A new influence mechanic replaces traditional diplomacy. Influence is a resource you accumulate to form alliances, friend or condemn other factions, and take diplomatic actions. This adds a deeper strategy beyond simple war-or-peace choices.
Dynamic terrain changes mean the map evolves. Rivers become navigable, terrain elevates, and resources shift, forcing you to adapt city planning and trade routes throughout the game.
Military combat now uses commanders instead of unit stacking. Commanders are special units that lead armies, gain experience, level up, and provide passive bonuses through skill tree choices.
Barbarians are gone and replaced by independent factions that behave dynamically and can evolve into full civilizations, making early-game interactions more complex and unpredictable. Narrative events add story-driven moments that create memorable historical scenarios throughout your campaign.
Civilization 7 is for strategy gamers, history enthusiasts, city-building fans, and anyone who enjoys long-term planning and tactical decision-making. It supports both single-player and multiplayer modes on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.
