DIRT 5 is an arcade off-road racing game developed by Codemasters and published by Codemasters, now part of Electronic Arts. It was released on November 6, 2020 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, and launched shortly after on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Unlike the simulation-focused DiRT Rally games, DIRT 5 is built for easy pick-up-and-play racing. You drive on gravel, ice, snow, sand, and mud across more than 70 routes in 10 locations, including a frozen river in New York, tracks in Brazil, and night races under the Northern Lights in Norway. Dynamic weather and time of day change grip and visibility during events.
The car list covers rally cars, rallycross machines, GT cars, trophy trucks, buggies, muscle cars, and 900 bhp sprint cars. Each class handles differently, and events range from point-to-point stages to packed oval sprint races and Ultra Cross.
The Career mode is a story-led journey with voiced commentary from Troy Baker and Nolan North, sponsor goals, and a rival to beat. Playgrounds lets you build your own arenas for gymkhana, smash, and gate-crash challenges and share them online. Four-player split-screen works across most modes, and online multiplayer is also available.
DIRT 5 suits players who want relaxed, colorful off-road racing, couch multiplayer with friends, and a creative mode for building custom tracks.
PC: Most PC keys activate on Steam. The game needs 64-bit Windows 10, a DirectX 12 graphics card, and about 60 GB of storage.
Consoles: PlayStation codes are redeemed on PlayStation Network and Xbox codes on a Microsoft account. Codemasters offered free upgrades from PS4 to PS5 and from Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S.
Editions and DLC: The Amplified Edition and Year One Edition add extra content. Content packs and the Year 1 Upgrade are also sold separately and need the base game.
