Donkey Kong Bananza is a 3D platform action-adventure game developed by Nintendo EPD and published by Nintendo. It launched on July 17, 2025, exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2, and is the first 3D Donkey Kong adventure in decades.
Almost everything in the world can be destroyed. DK punches through walls, digs new tunnels, rips chunks out of the ground to throw or ride like a snowboard, and climbs most surfaces. Smashing the terrain reveals gold and Banandium Gems, which you spend on a skill tree that makes DK stronger.
The adventure runs through a series of underground layers, each with its own theme such as ice, lava, or tropical zones, and large bosses guard the routes between them. Pauline, a young singer who travels with DK, uses her voice to unlock Bananza transformations. These animal forms include a Kong with more strength, a fast Zebra, a gliding Ostrich, a terrain-inhaling Elephant, and a high-jumping Snake.
A second player can control Pauline in co-op, firing explosive projectiles to help clear the way, and GameShare lets a friend join from another console. DK Artist mode lets you carve and paint sculptures using Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, and a photo mode is included.
Donkey Kong Bananza suits Switch 2 owners who enjoy open 3D platforming, collectible hunting, and freeform destruction.
