Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is an action RPG developed by CyberConnect2 and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. It was released on January 17, 2020 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. A Nintendo Switch version followed in September 2021, and native PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions arrived in January 2023.
The game retells the main Dragon Ball Z story arc by arc, from the arrival of Raditz through the Saiyan, Frieza, Android and Cell, and Majin Buu sagas. You mostly play as Goku, but also control Gohan, Vegeta, Piccolo, and other Z Fighters at key moments, with major scenes recreated in full 3D cutscenes.
Battles take place in real time. You fly, dash, block, fire ki blasts, and unleash signature super attacks such as the Kamehameha, while support characters join in with their own moves. Boss fights against iconic villains follow the anime's biggest clashes.
Between fights, the world is split into large open areas you can fly across freely. You collect Z Orbs to unlock skills, take on side quests, fish, hunt, cook meals with stat bonuses, and train. The Community Board system lets you place characters in groups that grant passive bonuses based on their relationships.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is single-player. It suits Dragon Ball fans who want to relive the anime story at their own pace, and players who enjoy light RPG progression mixed with fast, flashy combat.
PC: PC keys activate on Steam. The game needs a 64-bit Windows system and around 36 to 40 GB of storage.
Consoles: PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo codes are redeemed on PlayStation Network, a Microsoft account, or the Nintendo eShop. PS5 and Xbox Series X|S have native versions.
DLC and editions: Story DLC such as Trunks: The Warrior of Hope and A New Power Awakens is sold separately or through Season Passes. Some editions bundle these, so check what each listing includes.
