Dragon Quest VII Reimagined is a turn-based role-playing game developed by Square Enix with HEXADRIVE and published by Square Enix. It is a remake of Dragon Quest VII and was released on February 5, 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2.
You play as a fisherman's son from Estard, the only island left in the world. After finding the Shrine of Mysteries, you and your friends travel back in time, collect stone fragments, and unlock portals to lost lands. Fixing each island's past brings it back in the present.
Combat keeps the classic turn-based style but adds new ideas. Each vocation has its own perk, and the Moonlighting system lets you level up two vocations at the same time. Battle speed settings, auto-battle, and instant wins against weaker monsters on the field keep grinding short.
The game uses a handcrafted diorama art style with Akira Toriyama's character designs. The story is told as a series of island vignettes inside a larger plot, and the main path has been streamlined compared with the original. It is a single-player game.
It suits longtime Dragon Quest fans who want to revisit a classic, as well as newcomers looking for an approachable, story-driven JRPG. No earlier Dragon Quest game is needed to follow the plot.
PC: PC keys activate on Steam. The game needs 64-bit Windows 11 and about 15 GB of storage.
Consoles: Codes redeem on PlayStation Network, a Microsoft account, or the Nintendo eShop. Check whether a Nintendo listing is for Switch or Switch 2.
DLC: Extra content, such as the Luminary's Livery pack, is sold separately on some stores.
