Duke Nukem Forever is a first-person shooter developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K. It was released on June 13, 2011 for PC, and the Steam version also runs on macOS. It is the direct follow-up to Duke Nukem 3D and arrived after one of the longest development periods in gaming history.
You play as Duke, a loud, self-confident action hero who is pulled out of retirement when aliens return to Earth. The campaign moves through Las Vegas casinos, Duke's own burger chain, desert roads, and alien hives, mixing gunfights with vehicle sections, shrink-ray scenes, and light physics puzzles.
Combat leans on a varied arsenal, from shotguns and the Devastator to the Shrink Ray and Freeze Ray. Large boss fights break up the levels. The world is also full of interactive objects, such as pinball tables, pool, weights, and arcade machines, and some of them give Duke a permanent boost to his Ego, which works as his health bar.
Alongside the single-player story, the game includes online multiplayer for up to eight players, with modes such as Dukematch and Team Dukematch. The tone is crude, adult, and full of one-liners, so it is aimed at mature players.
Duke Nukem Forever suits fans of classic 1990s shooters, players curious about the history of the series, and anyone who enjoys over-the-top humor more than a serious story.
PC: PC keys activate on Steam. The game runs on older hardware and needs about 10 GB of storage.
DLC: Two add-ons were released: The Doctor Who Cloned Me and the Hail to the Icons Parody Pack. They need the base game.
Collection: Some stores sell a Duke Nukem Forever Collection with the base game and add-ons. Check what each listing includes.
