Dungeons & Dragons: Dragonshard is a real-time strategy game developed by Liquid Entertainment and originally released in 2005. SNEG re-released it on Steam for Windows PC on August 12, 2025, with modern resolution support, smoother timers and physics, and other compatibility fixes for current systems.
The game is set in Eberron, the Dungeons & Dragons campaign world created by Keith Baker, who also wrote its story. Three factions fight to control the Heart of Siberys, an artifact whose power can reshape the world.
Its signature feature is two linked layers of play. Above ground you build a base, gather resources and command armies in classic RTS style. Below ground, small hero-led parties explore dungeons, fight monsters and collect treasure and experience that strengthen your forces on the surface.
Units earn experience and level up, and the Nexus System means where you place buildings on a village grid changes the powers they grant. Armies combine champions, captains, trainable henchmen and huge juggernaut units, and each faction has its own campaign and strengths.
Progress flows between the two maps. Rewards earned by heroes underground make your captains and champions far stronger above, while a secure surface base keeps reinforcements coming. Splitting your attention well between the battlefield and the dungeons is the core skill the game asks of you.
Dragonshard suits RTS veterans looking to revisit a cult classic and D&D fans who want a strategy game with RPG flavor.
