Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is a Japanese role-playing game developed by Rabbit & Bear Studios and published by 505 Games. It launched on April 23, 2024 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
The game was created by veterans of the Suikoden series and follows the same idea: a large war story told through dozens of recruitable allies. It was the most-funded video game on Kickstarter in 2020.
You recruit more than 100 playable characters, each with their own skills and story moments. Turn-based battles use a party of six, with front and back rows and combo attacks between certain characters. Between fights you grow a headquarters that expands as new recruits join, unlocking shops, facilities, and minigames.
The story takes place in Allraan, a land where magical rune-lenses shape the balance of power. Nowa, a young man from a remote village, and Seign, a gifted imperial officer, become friends before war forces them onto opposite paths. Large army-scale battles appear at key points in the campaign.
It is a single-player game that suits fans of traditional JRPGs, 2.5D pixel-art visuals, and long campaigns built around collecting and building a cast. Players who enjoyed Suikoden I and II will recognize many of its ideas, refreshed with modern quality-of-life features such as adjustable difficulty settings and a choice of control options.
