Escape The Mad Empire is a party-based roguelike dungeon crawler developed and published by XperimentalZ Games. It launched in Early Access on Steam for PC on April 22, 2025.

The Empire has fallen, and its survivors are trapped in an apocalypse of its own making. You assemble a band of heroes from a pool of 13 classes and try to lead them out through a cavernous maze dug by the Mad Empire.

Combat runs in real time, but you can pause at any moment to use spells, abilities, and consumables. Managing the health and sanity of your heroes, along with limited resources, is key to surviving each run.

Loot is a big part of the game. The Empire used crystals to create strange and cursed items, so each piece of gear can change how a hero plays. Each run ends with a boss, and successful escapes reward your heroes with resources for your home base.

At the hub you build machines with Crystals of Reality to recruit, upgrade, and restore heroes, and to buy, craft, identify, or enchant gear. The game is single-player and suits fans of party management and tactical roguelikes.

Every attempt follows a path you chart yourself, so you must decide when to take risks for bigger rewards and when to play it safe. Keeping heroes alive and sane matters, which makes recruitment and restoration at the hub important. Strategy matters more than reflexes thanks to the pause system, and party building offers many class and item combinations to test.
