FAR: Changing Tides is a side-scrolling adventure developed by Okomotive and published by Frontier Foundry. It released on March 1, 2022 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch, and it follows the studio's earlier game, FAR: Lone Sails.
You play as Toe, a young boy who finds an unusual ship in a world swallowed by water. Your journey across the sea, and sometimes below it, is about finding a new home, and the game tells this story without dialogue, relying on visuals and music instead.
The ship itself is the main mechanic. You run between decks to raise and adjust sails, stoke the engine with fuel, manage pressure and repair parts as you travel. Later, the vessel gains the ability to dive underwater, which changes how you navigate and solve obstacles.
Environmental puzzles block your path at regular intervals. You leave the ship to explore ruins, operate machinery and clear the way forward, then climb back aboard to keep moving. The pacing alternates between calm sailing and tense moments when storms or breakdowns put pressure on your crew of one.
This is a single-player experience with a melancholic, quiet tone. It suits players who enjoy atmospheric, story-light games and want a contemplative adventure with hands-on vehicle management. Full controller support and a wide range of interface languages are available on PC.
Activation: PC keys activate on Steam; console versions use PlayStation Network, a Microsoft account or Nintendo eShop.
Prequel: FAR: Lone Sails is a separate game. Changing Tides can be played on its own.
Before you buy, check the activation platform and region on each offer, and read how to activate your CD key if you need help. More information is on the official FAR: Changing Tides website.
