Forsaken Remastered is a first-person shooter restored by Nightdive Studios from the 1998 original by Probe Entertainment and Iguana Entertainment, and published by Nightdive Studios and Atari. It launched on July 31, 2018, for PC and Xbox One, with macOS and Linux builds on Steam.
The game takes place on a ruined future Earth, where scavengers from across the galaxy search underground tunnels for leftover technology. You pilot a hoverbike with full 360-degree freedom of movement, fighting automated defenses and rival scavengers.
The arsenal includes 5 primary weapons and 9 secondary weapons, spread across 32 levels. Like the original, movement in every direction makes navigation and dogfighting feel closer to a flight game than a corridor shooter.
Nightdive's remaster runs on its own engine with higher resolutions, modern controls and full controller support. Online multiplayer offers 6 modes for up to 16 players, including Free For All and team games.
It suits fans of retro shooters and anyone who missed the original on PlayStation, PC or Nintendo 64.
Several bike pilots are available, each with a distinct look and personality from the original release. Levels are built as twisting three-dimensional tunnel networks with hidden areas, secret pickups and enemies that attack from above, below and behind. That design makes spatial awareness as important as aim, and it gives the game a different feel from most shooters of its era.
Nightdive Studios is known for preserving classic shooters, including Turok and Turok 2: Seeds of Evil, and Forsaken follows the same approach.
PC (Steam): PC keys activate on Steam and include Windows, macOS and Linux builds.
