Forza Horizon 2 is an open-world racing game developed by Playground Games for Xbox One, with the Xbox 360 version handled by Sumo Digital, set within the fictionalized Horizon Festival across Provence, Liguria, and the Côte d'Azur region of Southern Europe. The Xbox One version introduced roughly three times the drivable area of its predecessor, along with the series' first dynamic weather system and a day/night cycle that affects race conditions and atmosphere. Notably, Playground Games described the Xbox 360 and Xbox One versions as "different games," since the 360 edition omitted the weather system, drivatar AI, tuning, and the free-roam open world found in the more powerful Xbox One release. The game features over 200 licensed vehicles, full cockpit views with automatic wipers and headlights, and a road trip career mode that adapts events to the player's chosen car. Social features included "Car Meets," an online hub replacing the earlier ForzaVista mode where players could show off customized vehicles and share liveries, plus "Bucket Lists" of timed challenges completable solo or with others. A standalone expansion, Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious, introduced nitrous oxide boosts to the franchise for the first time. Since the October 2018 delisting and the August 2023 server shutdown, the game and its DLC remain playable only in offline mode for those who already own them.
