Halls of Torment is a horde survival roguelite developed and published by Chasing Carrots. The full 1.0 version launched on September 24, 2024 for Windows and Linux after a period in early access. Versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S followed on October 28, 2025.
Each run starts with choosing a hero and descending into the underworld. Your character attacks automatically while you focus on movement, dodging, and positioning as wave after wave of enemies closes in. Runs are designed to last around 30 minutes and end with a fight against one of the Lords of the underworld.
As you level up during a run, you pick abilities, traits, and blessings that stack into powerful builds. Items found in the halls can be sent back up to the surface and equipped on future runs, and quests unlock new characters, stages, and upgrades over time. Tinctures and class combinations add further ways to shape a build.
The game is single-player. Its look is inspired by pre-rendered RPGs from the late 1990s, giving it a darker, old-school feel than many games in the genre. At 1.0, it includes six stages, eleven playable characters, and a late-game challenge called the Shrine of Torment.
Halls of Torment suits players who enjoy Vampire Survivors-style games, short sessions, and slowly unlocking new builds. It also runs on modest PC hardware.
PC: PC keys activate on Steam and support Windows and Linux.
Consoles: PS5 and Xbox Series X|S codes are redeemed on PlayStation Network or a Microsoft account.
DLC: The Boglands is a paid expansion that requires the base game. Check whether a listing is the base game or DLC.
