Hardspace: Shipbreaker is a first-person salvage simulation game developed by Blackbird Interactive and originally published by Focus Entertainment. It entered early access in June 2020 and was fully released on May 24, 2022 for PC. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions followed on September 20, 2022.
You play as a new shipbreaker hired by LYNX Corporation. Your first day on the job leaves you more than a billion credits in debt, covering your gear, your rent, and even the cost of being cloned if you die. Each shift, you float out to a derelict ship in orbit and take it apart to earn money toward that balance.
Every ship works like a physics puzzle. You use a laser cutter to slice through hulls and panels, a grapple to pull salvage around in zero gravity, and demo charges for bigger cuts. Parts must go to the right place: the furnace, the processor, or the barge. Mistakes are costly, as hazards include explosive decompression, fuel lines, electrical systems, radiation, and unstable reactors.
Earnings unlock better tools, upgrades, and harder contracts with larger ships. The campaign adds a story about working life and labor rights within LYNX, while Free Play removes time limits for relaxed salvaging and a competitive mode offers timed challenges.
Hardspace: Shipbreaker is single-player. It suits players who enjoy methodical puzzle solving, sandbox physics, careful planning, and a calm, satisfying work loop with occasional explosive surprises.
PC: PC keys activate on Steam. The game needs a 64-bit Windows 10 system and only about 4 GB of storage.
PS5 and Xbox Series X|S: Console codes are redeemed on PlayStation Network or a Microsoft account. There is no PS4 or Xbox One version.
Extras: The original soundtrack and a digital artbook are sold separately on Steam and are not needed to play.
