Have a Nice Death is a 2D action roguelite developed by Magic Design Studios and published by Gearbox Publishing (now Arc Games). It left early access on PC and launched on Nintendo Switch on March 22, 2023, then arrived on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S in December 2023.
You play as Death, the CEO of Death Incorporated, whose employees have let things run out of control. Souls are piling up, the balance is broken, and your vacation is on hold. To fix it, you take your scythe into each department and deal with the staff yourself.
Each run sends you through procedurally generated floors filled with minions, mini-bosses, and department heads. Fast hack-and-slash combat is supported by more than 70 weapons and spells that you find and upgrade. Since Death cannot die, every failed run ends with a performance review that unlocks new items and upgrades for the next attempt.
A curse system adds risk: taking extra power for yourself can make your subordinates stronger or raise prices on items you rely on. The game is single-player only and is known for its hand-drawn art and dark office humor. Bosses are the heads of each department, and the cast of quirky coworkers, including the pumpkin-headed assistant Pump Quinn, keeps the office gossip flowing between runs.
It suits fans of roguelites like Hades and Dead Cells who enjoy tight combat and comedic storytelling.
PC: PC keys activate on Steam.
Consoles: Codes are redeemed on PlayStation Network, a Microsoft account, or the Nintendo eShop, depending on the version.
