Helldivers is a top-down, twin-stick cooperative shooter developed by Arrowhead Game Studios and published by PlayStation Publishing. It first launched on PlayStation consoles in March 2015, and the PC version arrived on Steam on December 7, 2015. It is the original game that led to Helldivers 2.

You play as an elite soldier of Super Earth, dropping onto alien planets to complete objectives such as defending points, escorting units, and destroying enemy structures. Planets have different hazards and enemy types, and higher difficulty levels add stronger foes and tighter time pressure. Each mission ends with a race to the extraction zone while enemy waves close in.

Stratagems are the core system. You enter short directional codes to call in supply drops, turrets, vehicles, airstrikes, and reinforcements. Friendly fire is always active, so careless aim or a badly placed drop can wipe out your own squad.

The game supports up to four players in online or local co-op, and it can also be played solo. Every completed mission feeds into a community-wide galactic campaign against three enemy factions: the Bugs, the Cyborgs, and the Illuminate. Players share a goal of pushing each faction back to its homeworld.
