Hero's Hour is a strategy RPG created by solo developer ThingOnItsOwn and published by Goblinz Publishing. It was released on Steam on March 1, 2022, and is also available on Nintendo Switch.
The structure will feel familiar to fans of classic hero-based strategy games. You explore the overworld with your hero, collect resources, develop your town and recruit an army, all in turn-based steps that give you time to plan.
Battles are where it changes. Instead of turn-based combat, fights play out in real time with hundreds of units acting on their own, while you cast spells and give attack orders to swing the outcome.
Content is broad: 11 factions with their own mechanics, 22 hero classes, 177 units plus 99 upgraded units, 166 artifacts and 83 spells. Procedurally generated maps, obelisk quests and map buildings make each campaign play differently.
Multiplayer includes local hotseat and co-op with other players or the AI. A level editor and Steam Workshop support add more maps and community content.
Each faction plays differently, and map buildings and rewards change between games, so the same build order rarely works twice. Because battles resolve quickly, full matches move faster than in many turn-based strategy games, and hotseat sessions with friends can realistically be finished in one sitting.
It suits fans of Heroes of Might and Magic-style strategy who want shorter, faster matches with plenty of replay value.
Activation: PC keys activate on Steam. The Switch version redeems on the Nintendo eShop.
Add-ons: Rogue Realms, released in March 2023, and the Supporter Pack are separate DLC and need the base game.
Before you buy, check the activation platform and region on each offer, and read how to activate your CD key if you are new to Steam keys. More details are on the Hero's Hour Steam page.
