Hitman: Absolution is a stealth action game developed by IO Interactive and originally published by Square Enix. It was released on November 20, 2012 for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, and it is the fifth main game in the Hitman series.
The story is the most personal in the series. Agent 47 is ordered to eliminate his former handler, Diana Burnwood, after she betrays the International Contract Agency. Her last request leads him to protect a young girl named Victoria, and soon 47 is hunted by both the Agency and the police across Chicago and the small town of Hope, South Dakota.
Each level gives you a target or goal and leaves the method up to you. You can sneak past guards, knock out a worker and take their outfit, set up an accident, or fight your way through. Disguises let you blend in, but people wearing the same uniform may see through them.
Instinct mode is the game's signature system. It highlights enemies and their patrol routes through walls, shows useful objects, and lets 47 keep a disguise from being noticed for a short time. Point Shooting lets him pause, mark several targets, and take them all down in one move. Levels are scored, so quiet, clean play earns higher ratings.
Hitman: Absolution suits players who enjoy stealth, cinematic crime stories, and replaying levels to find new approaches. The main story is single-player.
PC: Most PC keys activate on Steam. The game runs on older hardware and needs about 24 GB of storage.
Standalone game: Hitman: Absolution is not part of HITMAN World of Assassination. It is a separate purchase with its own story.
Console: The game was released on PS3 and Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 version also runs on newer Xbox consoles through backward compatibility.
