Immortality is an interactive film mystery created by Sam Barlow, the creator of Her Story, and published by Half Mermaid. It launched on August 30, 2022 for PC and Xbox Series X|S, with a macOS version in 2023 and a PlayStation 5 release in January 2024.

The game centers on Marissa Marcel, an actress who starred in three films between 1968 and 1999 that were never released. She then vanished. Your job is to work out what happened by viewing recovered clips from those films and their behind-the-scenes footage.

Instead of keyword searches, you use a match cut system. Pause any clip, click a face or object, and the game jumps to a related moment in another clip. Following these links unlocks new scenes and slowly reveals hidden layers of the story.

The three films are Ambrosio, a gothic period drama, Minsky, a New York crime thriller, and Two of Everything, a thriller about a pop star and her body double. The game is single-player, and the developer recommends headphones and a controller.

The footage includes rehearsals, table reads, and on-set moments as well as finished scenes, so you learn about the people behind each production. Clips you have found are stored in a library, letting you rewatch them and return to any lead that looked important.

It suits players who like nonlinear mysteries, film history, and piecing together a story at their own pace. Some scenes contain mature themes.

Which version should you buy?

• Activation: PC keys activate on Steam and run on Windows and macOS. Console copies use the Microsoft Store or PlayStation Store.

• Edition: There is one standard edition with no paid DLC; the full game is included in each key.

• Mobile: Mobile versions were released through Netflix and are not sold as keys.
