Imperator: Rome is a grand strategy game developed by Paradox Development Studio and published by Paradox Interactive. It was released on April 25, 2019 for PC, with native macOS and Linux versions.
The game covers the classical era, from the successor kingdoms that followed Alexander the Great to the founding of the Roman Empire. You can lead Rome, Carthage, a Hellenistic kingdom, or many smaller tribes and city-states across Europe, North Africa, and Asia.
Play runs on a real-time map that you can pause at any moment. You manage provinces and their populations, made up of citizens, freemen, tribesmen, and slaves, each with their own culture and religion. Characters with traits and ambitions lead your nation, govern provinces, and command armies, so loyalty and court politics matter as much as battles.
Diplomacy, trade, and military traditions shape how your state grows. Imperator: Rome supports single-player campaigns and online multiplayer, and Steam Workshop mods are available on PC.
It suits players who enjoy deep, long-form strategy in the style of Europa Universalis or Crusader Kings, with a focus on the ancient world. Campaigns are open-ended, so you set your own goals, whether that means uniting Italy, rebuilding Alexander's empire, or simply surviving as a small tribe between larger powers. Expect a learning curve, as many systems interact at once.
PC, Mac and Linux: Keys are redeemed on Steam. One key covers Windows, macOS, and Linux where Steam supports them.
DLC: Content packs such as Epirus and Magna Graecia are sold separately and require the base game.
Before you buy, check the activation platform and region on each offer, then follow our guide on how to activate your CD key. For screenshots and update notes, see the official Imperator: Rome Steam page.
