Kane & Lynch: Dead Men is a third-person shooter developed by IO Interactive, the studio behind the Hitman series, and published by Eidos Interactive. It was released in November 2007 for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.
The story follows Adam Marcus Kane, a mercenary on death row, and James Seth Lynch, a medicated and violent fellow prisoner. Freed during a prison transfer, the two are forced to work together for a criminal group, even though neither trusts the other.
Gameplay mixes cover-based shooting with squad orders. In many missions you lead a small crew, telling allies where to move and whom to attack. Levels include bank robberies, crowded nightclubs, and city streets where civilians react to the chaos around them.
The campaign can be played alone as Kane or, on PS3 and Xbox 360, in two-player split-screen co-op with the second player as Lynch. The original release also included Fragile Alliance, an online heist mode where players rob a target together but can betray each other for a bigger share.
Kane & Lynch: Dead Men suits players who like gritty crime stories, cooperative shooters, and older action games from the late 2000s. Its dark tone and mature themes make it a game for adult players.
PC: PC keys activate on Steam. The game is light on hardware, needing about 7 GB of storage.
Consoles: The game was also released on PS3 and Xbox 360. Check that a listing is for the platform you actually own.
Sequel: The story continues in Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days, which is sold as a separate game.
