Ken Follett's The Pillars of the Earth is a story-driven point-and-click adventure developed and published by Daedalic Entertainment. Released in three books starting on August 15, 2017, it is available on PC, macOS, and Linux, as well as PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
The game adapts Ken Follett's bestselling novel. In 12th-century England, during a time of poverty and war, the village of Kingsbridge begins building a cathedral to bring wealth and security to its people. The story spans more than 30 years of conspiracies, romance, and conflict.
You switch between three playable characters: Jack, a stonemason's apprentice raised in the woods; Aliena, a disgraced noblewoman; and Philip, a monk who becomes prior of Kingsbridge. Exploration, dialogue, and decisions shape scenes and can change events from the book, so readers will still find surprises.
The presentation stands out, with more than 200 hand-painted backgrounds, fully animated 2D characters, and an orchestral soundtrack recorded by the FILMharmonic Orchestra Prague. Full voice-over is provided in English and German. The game is single-player and supports both controller and mouse.
It suits fans of the novel, narrative adventure players, and anyone who enjoys historical drama at a relaxed pace. No prior knowledge of the book is needed to follow the story.
PC: Most PC keys activate on Steam and cover the complete game. It needs about 13.5 GB of storage.
Consoles: PS4 and Xbox One codes are redeemed on PlayStation Network or a Microsoft account.
Content: The full game contains all three books of the story, so no separate episode purchases are needed.
Before you buy, check the activation platform and region on each offer, then follow our guide on how to activate your CD key. For background on the adaptation, visit the official The Pillars of the Earth game website.
