Kena: Bridge of Spirits is a third-person action adventure developed and published by Ember Lab, an independent studio that started out in animation. It was released on September 21, 2021 for PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. It came to Steam in September 2022 and to Xbox Series X|S on August 15, 2024.

You play as Kena, a young Spirit Guide who helps restless spirits move on. She travels to an abandoned village on the way to a sacred Mountain Shrine and finds the land twisted by corruption. To heal it, she must uncover the stories of the spirits who are trapped there and free them.

Kena fights with a spirit staff that doubles as a bow, a pulse shield, and spirit bombs. Combat is quick and can be demanding, especially in boss battles against corrupted spirits. Her main helpers are the Rot, small forest spirits you find and collect across the world. The more Rot you gather, the more they can do, from moving objects and solving puzzles to attacking enemies and clearing corruption.

Exploration rewards curiosity. You find hidden Rot, collect hats to customize them, deliver Spirit Mail, and open shortcuts through the valley. The animated-film art style and soundtrack are a big part of its appeal.

Kena is a single-player game. It suits players who enjoy Zelda-like adventures, challenging but fair combat, collectibles, and heartfelt stories told through cinematic cutscenes.
