King's Bounty: The Legend is a tactical role-playing game developed by Russian studio Katauri Interactive. It was first released for Windows in 2008, with a Mac version following in 2012. The game is now published on Steam by Fulqrum Publishing.

You play as a royal treasure hunter sent by the king to explore the world of Endoria. You travel the map in real time, visit castles and towns, recruit troops, collect artifacts and take on quests. When you meet enemies, the game switches to turn-based battles on a hex grid.

Battles reward planning over speed. Positioning, unit morale, army composition and smart use of spells decide most fights. Your Leadership stat limits how large an army you can command, so choosing the right creatures matters as much as raw strength.

At the start you choose a Warrior, Paladin or Mage, and each class offers a different playstyle and progression path. The story begins simply and grows into a longer tale with twists and a memorable ending. Optional side quests, hidden treasure and rare items reward careful exploration, and a full playthrough takes many hours. It is a single-player game.

It suits fans of Heroes of Might and Magic-style strategy, turn-based tactics and classic fantasy RPGs. Players who enjoy it can move on to the modern sequel King's Bounty II.
