Lost Planet: Extreme Condition is a third-person shooter developed and published by Capcom. It first launched on Xbox 360 in Japan in December 2006 and worldwide in January 2007, and the PC version followed on June 26, 2007. Today the PC edition is sold as a Steam key.
You play as Wayne Holden, a soldier on E.D.N. III, an ice-covered planet that humans are trying to colonize. The planet is home to the Akrid, huge insect-like aliens that carry thermal energy. Wayne is caught between the Akrid, the NEVEC corporation, and groups of snow pirates who scavenge to stay alive.
Thermal energy drives the whole game. The freezing climate drains your supply, so you refill it by defeating enemies and activating data posts, which also reveal nearby threats on your radar. A grappling hook lets you reach high ledges or latch onto a Vital Suit, the armed mechs you can pilot with chain guns and rocket launchers. You can switch between first-person and third-person views at any time.
The campaign has 11 levels, each ending in a boss fight against a giant Akrid or an enemy Vital Suit. Steam also lists online multiplayer for up to 16 players, with modes such as Elimination, Team Elimination, Post Grab, and Fugitive, although player counts for a 2007 game can be low.
Lost Planet suits players who enjoy mid-2000s action games, big boss battles, and mech combat in snowy sci-fi settings. If you finish it and want more, the series continues with Lost Planet 3.
PC (Steam): Current PC keys activate on Steam. Steam notes that an internet connection is required to play.
Colonies Edition: Lost Planet: Extreme Condition Colonies Edition is a separate, expanded release. Check the exact title before you buy.
Consoles: The game also came out on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, but this page compares PC keys.
Before you buy, check the activation platform and region on each offer, then follow our guide on how to activate your CD key. For store details, see the Lost Planet: Extreme Condition Steam page.
