Marathon is a sci-fi PvP extraction shooter developed and published by Bungie, the studio behind Halo and Destiny. It reimagines Bungie's classic Marathon universe and launched on March 5, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
The game is set on Tau Ceti IV, a lost colony world. You play as a Runner, a cybernetic mercenary who drops into dangerous zones to scavenge loot, gear, and intel while competing against rival players and hostile AI forces. To keep what you find, you need to reach extraction alive.
Every run is high stakes. Gear you take into a match can be lost if you are eliminated, while successful extractions fill your vault and let you upgrade your loadout. Contracts give you objectives and rewards that help you grow stronger over the course of a season.
You choose a Runner shell with its own abilities, then customize a moddable arsenal to build anything from stealthy infiltrators to frontline fighters or support specialists. You can play solo or crew up in groups of two or three, and even strike uneasy deals with other players.
