Mario Kart World is a kart racing game developed and published by Nintendo. It launched alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5, 2025 and is exclusive to that console. It does not run on the original Nintendo Switch.
The biggest change in this entry is the world itself. Instead of separate, closed circuits, courses are connected across one large map, and the roads between them become part of the race. Every race can include up to 24 drivers, double the field size of earlier games in the series.
Grand Prix cups and Time Trials return, alongside Knockout Tour, a long rally across several connected courses where the lowest-placed racers are knocked out at each checkpoint. Free Roam lets you drive anywhere on the map, find hidden challenges, and explore without a timer. Battle mode is also included.
Driving has new tricks. You can charge a jump to grind on rails, ride along walls, and take shortcuts the earlier games did not allow. Up to four players can race split-screen on one console, up to eight over local wireless, and up to 24 online with a Nintendo Switch Online membership. GameChat support lets friends talk while they race.
Mario Kart World suits families, party groups, and long-time series fans who want a fresh take on the classic formula on new hardware.
Switch 2 only: Mario Kart World requires a Nintendo Switch 2. Digital codes are redeemed on the Nintendo eShop with a Nintendo Account.
Region: Make sure the code region matches your Nintendo Account region, since eShop codes are sold per region.
Storage: The digital version needs about 22.2 GB of free space on the console or a microSD Express card.
Before you buy, check the activation platform and region on each offer, then follow our guide on how to activate your CD key. For game modes and details, see the official Mario Kart World page on Nintendo.com.
