Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is a first-person action-adventure game developed by Retro Studios and published by Nintendo. It was released on December 4, 2025 for Nintendo Switch, with a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition launched the same day. It is the first new mainline Prime game since Metroid Prime 3: Corruption in 2007.
Bounty hunter Samus Aran is pulled across space to Viewros, a mysterious planet whose ancient inhabitants left behind ruins, machines, and secrets. To find a way home, she must explore hostile regions, uncover what happened to that lost civilization, and deal with the rival hunter Sylux.
The core loop will feel familiar to series fans. You scan the environment, fight creatures from a first-person view, and find upgrades that open paths you could not reach before. New psychic abilities add fresh options, such as guiding shots in flight and interacting with the world using the mind. Samus can also ride Vi-O-La, a motorcycle used to cross the large desert area that links the regions.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is a single-player game. On Switch 2, the game supports up to 4K at 60 frames per second or 1080p at 120 frames per second, plus optional mouse-style aiming with the Joy-Con 2 controllers.
It suits players who enjoy exploration, environmental puzzles, and atmospheric sci-fi more than nonstop action, as well as long-time Metroid fans.
Switch vs. Switch 2 Edition: The Switch version also plays on Switch 2, but the Switch 2 Edition adds higher resolution, higher frame rates, and mouse controls. An upgrade pack is sold for Switch owners.
Activation: Digital codes are redeemed on the Nintendo eShop. Match the code region to your Nintendo Account region.
Storage: About 26.3 GB on Switch and 27.7 GB for the Switch 2 Edition.
