Momodora: Moonlit Farewell is an action Metroidvania developed by Bombservice and published by PLAYISM. It launched on PC on January 11, 2024, and arrived on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch on February 6, 2025.
The story is set five years after Momodora III. When an ominous bell rings, demons begin to attack the village of Koho. Momo Reinol, the village's most capable priestess, is sent to find the bellringer and protect the sacred Lun Tree.
Gameplay follows the Metroidvania formula. You explore a large connected world, find new abilities that open blocked paths, and return to earlier areas to uncover secrets. Combat mixes melee combos, well-timed dodges, and arrows fired from a distance.
The Sigil system lets you equip passive abilities that change how Momo fights, so you can shape your own playstyle. Boss battles are a highlight, testing your timing and pattern reading, and freely adjustable difficulty means you can relax and explore or face a real challenge. The game is single-player.
Moonlit Farewell suits fans of pixel art, 2D action, and games like Hollow Knight or the earlier Momodora titles. Its adjustable difficulty and focused design also make it a good first Metroidvania for newer players.
PC: PC keys activate on Steam. The game is very light and needs only about 1.5 GB of storage.
Consoles: Console codes are redeemed on PlayStation Network, a Microsoft account, or the Nintendo eShop. There is no PS4 or Xbox One version.
Series: Moonlit Farewell has its own story, so you can start the series here without playing earlier games.
