You play as Will, a young shopkeeper in the trading village of Rynoka who secretly dreams of becoming a hero. Long ago, archaeologists uncovered mysterious Gates that lead to other realms full of treasure, and Rynoka grew up around them as a place for adventurers to sell their finds.

The game splits each day in two. At night you dive into procedurally arranged dungeons, fight enemies and bosses, and fill your limited bag with loot. By day you open the Moonlighter shop, set prices carefully, watch how customers react, and guard your wares against thieves. The gold you earn pays for better weapons, armor, enchantments, and new businesses in town.

Combat is fast and skill-based, with timing and positioning mattering more than stats. Post-launch updates added new mini-bosses, gear, more than 100 new room layouts, companions, extra lore, and a New Game+ mode. Moonlighter is a single-player game.

It suits players who like dungeon crawlers with a management twist, pixel-art worlds, and a steady loop of gathering, selling, and upgrading.
