NordVPN for Mac is a native macOS application that provides the same core VPN functionality as NordVPN's Windows and mobile apps, encrypting all internet traffic between the Mac and NordVPN's servers to hide the user's real IP address and location from websites, ISPs, and potential eavesdroppers. The service operates a large global network of over 8,800 servers across 224+ locations, allowing Mac users to connect to nearby servers for speed or to specific countries for accessing geo-restricted content such as streaming libraries, news sites, and social media platforms.
Mac users can choose between two app versions: the website download, which includes Threat Protection Pro™ (malware, phishing, and scam blocking), a customisable per-app Kill Switch, and custom DNS settings; and the App Store version, which offers simpler installation and automatic updates but only includes a system-wide Kill Switch and a lite version of Threat Protection. Both versions support advanced features such as Double VPN, Meshnet, Onion Over VPN, Obfuscated servers, and the NordLynx (WireGuard-based) protocol for high-speed connections, making the Mac app suitable for privacy-conscious users, streamers, and torrenters alike.
