Of Ash and Steel is a third-person open-world action RPG developed by Fire & Frost and published by tinyBuild. It was released on November 24, 2025 for PC on Steam, and it draws heavily on the style of classic old-school RPGs.
You play as Tristan, a cartographer who loses everything and finds himself on a once-prosperous island in the Kingdom of the Seven. The main story runs more than 45 hours, with plenty of dialogue, side quests, books, and characters whose opinion of you changes as you grow.
Combat is challenging and skill-based. You start as an ordinary man, not a hero, and must learn to manage stamina, time attacks and parries, and switch between three battle stances. Several weapon types and active skills let you shape your style, from a light rapier fighter to an armored knight.
Exploration is a key part of the experience. There are no quest markers, so you follow directions from characters and notes and mark places on your own map. You can join one of two major factions with its own storyline and rewards, and learn professions such as fishing, hunting, alchemy, and blacksmithing. It is a single-player game.
It suits fans of classic European RPGs such as Gothic and players who enjoy hard combat and finding their own way.
PC (Steam): Keys activate on Steam. The game needs a 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 system, about 45 GB of space, and an SSD.
Consoles: PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions have been announced. Until they launch, buy a Steam key for PC.
DLC: Story expansions, such as the announced Shattered Faith, are sold separately and require the base game.
