Phoenix Point is a turn-based tactical strategy game developed and published by Snapshot Games, the studio led by original X-COM designer Julian Gollop. It first launched on PC on December 3, 2019, reached Steam in December 2020, and arrived on PlayStation and Xbox consoles in 2021 as the Behemoth Edition.
Each campaign mixes two layers. On the Geoscape, you research technology, build and manage bases, scout a ruined planet, and decide where to send your aircraft. In tactical missions, you command a squad of soldiers on procedurally generated maps, taking turns to move, take cover, and fight.
Its standout system is free aiming. Instead of relying only on a hit percentage, you can target specific body parts, weapons, or weak points on enemies. Disabling an arm or destroying a weapon changes how a fight plays out. The Pandoran enemies also mutate over time, adapting to the tactics you use most.
The game is single-player. Beyond combat, you manage relations with three rival human factions, New Jericho, Synedrion, and the Disciples of Anu, through diplomacy, trade, or raids. The story follows the Pandoravirus and offers multiple endings, and Steam Workshop support adds community mods on PC.
Phoenix Point suits players who enjoy XCOM-style tactics, long campaigns with permadeath stakes, and strategy layers that reward careful planning and resource management.
