The game follows Alex Mercer, a man who wakes up in a morgue with no memory of how he got there. He soon discovers that he has gained extraordinary biological abilities, including the power to reshape his body into weapons, absorb other people, and move across the city with superhuman speed and agility.
As Alex investigates his mysterious past, a deadly viral outbreak spreads throughout New York City. The city becomes increasingly chaotic as civilians, infected creatures, military forces, and powerful enemies clash.
