Skin Deep is a first-person immersive sim shooter developed by Blendo Games and published by Annapurna Interactive. It released on April 30, 2025 for Windows PC.
You play as Nina Pasadena, an insurance commando kept in cryo-sleep aboard starships. When space pirates hijack a ship and trip a silent alarm, Nina wakes up and has to deal with them. Your main job on each mission is to free the ship's crew, who happen to be cats locked in cages, using keycards often carried by enemies.
Missions are open-ended, so you choose how to play. Crawl through vents, open airlocks, or step outside into space to get around. Combat is built on improvised tricks: pepper makes enemies sneeze, soap and banana peels make them slip, and you can carry only five items at a time. Defeated pirates have skull-saver devices, so you must throw their heads out of the ship or they respawn.
Small details add tension and humor. Dusty vents can make Nina sneeze and give away her position, and since she has no shoes, stepping on broken glass hurts until you pull it out. Between missions you return to Nina's apartment to read emails that move the story forward and spend time with the cats you rescued. It is a single-player game with adjustable difficulty.
Skin Deep suits fans of immersive sims, stealth games with creative solutions, and players who like comedy mixed with sci-fi action.
