Slay the Spire is a single-player roguelike deckbuilding game developed and published by Mega Crit. It left Early Access on January 23, 2019 for PC, with versions for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One following later that year. It also runs on macOS and Linux.
Each run starts with a small, basic deck. You climb the Spire one floor at a time, choosing your path on a branching map that mixes normal fights, elites, shops, rest sites, treasure, and unknown events. After each battle you pick a new card, so your deck grows in a different direction every time.
Combat is turn-based. You draw a hand, spend energy to play attacks, blocks, and skills, and read each enemy's intent before you commit. Relics add passive effects that can bend a whole strategy around one item, and potions give you a one-time edge in hard fights.
There are four characters, each with its own card pool: the Ironclad, the Silent, the Defect, and the Watcher. Ascension levels raise the difficulty after you win, and daily climbs and custom runs keep things fresh. On PC, Steam Workshop support adds community mods.
Slay the Spire suits players who enjoy short, replayable runs, careful decision-making, and building synergies. Sessions are easy to pick up, but mastering every character takes a long time.
PC and Mac: PC keys activate on Steam. One Steam copy covers Windows, macOS, and Linux.
Consoles: PS4 codes redeem on PlayStation Network, Xbox One codes on a Microsoft account, and Switch codes on the Nintendo eShop.
Sequel: Slay the Spire 2 is a separate game, so make sure a listing names the right title.
Before you buy, check the activation platform and region on each offer, then follow our guide on how to activate your CD key. If you have finished the original, the Slay the Spire 2 key prices page covers the sequel. Visit the official Mega Crit website for news and updates.
