Star Wars Battlefront is a first- and third-person shooter developed by EA DICE and published by Electronic Arts. It released on November 17, 2015 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, and is the 2015 reboot of the Battlefront series, not the 2004 classic. The Ultimate Edition later arrived on Steam in June 2020.
The game focuses on large online battles set during the original Star Wars trilogy. Maps include Hoth, Endor, Tatooine, and Sullust, and the free Battle of Jakku update added a setting tied to The Force Awakens. You fight as Rebel or Imperial troopers, picking up power-ups to call in vehicles or turn into a hero.
Modes cover a wide range. Walker Assault and Supremacy support up to 40 players, Fighter Squadron focuses on space and air combat, and Heroes vs. Villains lets you play as Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Boba Fett, and other icons. Star Cards replace classic classes, so you build your own loadout of abilities and gadgets.
There is no story campaign. Instead, offline Missions offer training, battles, and wave-based survival that you can play alone or in co-op, with split-screen co-op on PS4 and Xbox One. Four expansions, Outer Rim, Bespin, Death Star, and Rogue One: Scarif, add more maps, heroes, and modes.
Star Wars Battlefront suits fans who want to step into the films' most famous battles and players who enjoy quick, accessible multiplayer shooters with striking visuals and sound.
PC: PC keys activate on Steam or the EA app. An EA account is required either way, and online play needs a broadband connection.
Consoles: PS4 codes redeem on PlayStation Network and Xbox One codes on a Microsoft account. Online play needs PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass Essential.
Editions: The Ultimate Edition bundles the Deluxe Edition with the Season Pass and all four expansions. Standard listings may not include the DLC.
