Star Wars Episode I: Racer is a futuristic racing game developed by LucasArts. It first launched in May 1999 alongside Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace. The PC version returned on Steam in 2018, and console versions came to PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch in 2020.
You race podracers, light vehicles pulled by two huge jet engines, at simulated speeds of up to 600 mph. Pick Anakin Skywalker or one of more than 20 other pilots and compete across more than 20 tracks spread over eight worlds, including Tatooine.
Tracks are full of hazards such as methane lakes, meteor showers, and Tusken Raider attacks. Prize money from tournament races buys engine and handling upgrades, and you can repair your pod mid-race when parts take damage. Buying parts from Watto's shop or the junkyard helps you build a faster and tougher racer for later circuits. Pushing your engines too hard can cause them to overheat and catch fire.
Steam lists multiplayer support for the PC version, and the game uses sound effects and music from the film. The tournament mode forms the main single-player campaign, with free play and time trial modes for practicing individual tracks.
It suits Star Wars fans, retro racing players, and anyone who remembers the podrace from The Phantom Menace.
PC: Most PC keys activate on Steam. The game runs on Windows 7 or newer.
Consoles: PS4, Xbox One, and Switch codes are redeemed on PlayStation Network, a Microsoft account, or the Nintendo eShop.
Language: The game is in English only.
