Steel Division: Normandy 44 is a tactical real-time strategy game developed and published by Eugen Systems, the studio behind Wargame and R.U.S.E. It released on PC on May 23, 2017.
The game covers the 1944 Allied invasion of Normandy. You command historically detailed tanks, infantry, artillery, and aircraft drawn from real divisions of six nations, such as the US 101st Airborne, the German 21st Panzer, and the 3rd Canadian Division. Units are modeled on real equipment, so armor, range, and weapon types matter when you plan an attack or defense.
Battles unfold in phases, with stronger units becoming available as the fight goes on. You build a division deck before each match, then manage a moving front line, supply, and line of sight on large maps based on the Normandy countryside. Hedgerows, villages, towns, and dense forests offer cover, and reconnaissance is key to spotting enemy units before they spot you.
Solo players can follow a single-player campaign or fight AI opponents. Multiplayer supports large online battles of up to 10 vs 10, as well as co-op against the AI.
Steel Division: Normandy 44 suits players who enjoy realistic WWII tactics and careful unit management. It rewards patience and planning more than fast clicking, and extra divisions arrive through DLC. Fans of the setting can also look at the follow-up, Steel Division 2.
PC (Steam): Keys activate on Steam and need 64-bit Windows.
DLC divisions: Extra divisions come in DLC such as Second Wave and Back to Hell, which need the base game.
Online play: A broadband connection is needed for multiplayer battles.
